USCIS Temporarily Suspends Biometrics Requirement for Certain Form I-539 Applicants

USCIS recently announced that starting on May 17, 2021, biometrics will not be necessary for certain applicants who file Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status. This new rule applies to applicants requesting a change of status to H-4, L-2 or E-1, E-2 or E-3 nonimmigrant status. The suspension of biometrics for these applications will apply through May 17, 2023.

This rule will apply to Forms I-539 in the above-mentioned categories that are pending as of May 17, 2021, and have not yet received a biometric service appointment notice or new applications submitted on or after May 17, 2021.
