Lorena is an immigration attorney, and her practice includes removal defense, asylum, and criminal-immigration. She has a substantive amount of experience working with unaccompanied minors in removal proceedings.
Lorena has been in the immigration law field since 2016. She began her career working as an immigration paralegal in Oakland, where she assisted attorneys in removal defense. During law school, Lorena interned at the Immigration Legal Clinic and her school’s Humanizing Deportation Practicum. At the clinic, Lorena provided advice for public defenders on the best options for non-citizen clients in criminal proceedings. Her school’s Humanizing Deportation Practicum trained intensively on post-deportation relief, and this included a trip to Mexico to interview recent deportees to help establish a potential post deportation plan. In addition, Lorena graduated law school with an immigration law certificate. For her certificate, Lorena wrote a research paper about credibility determinations in asylum proceedings among Indigenous populations.
