Firm Overview

The Difference We Make

Founded in 1980 by attorney Marc Van Der Hout, Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, LLP, has grown to become a nationally-recognized, full-service immigration law firm representing individuals, families, and business employers in the Bay Area, throughout California, and from across the country and across the globe in a broad range of immigration and visa concerns.

As lawyers, we have litigated cases of national significance and are renowned for our ability for taking on and winning highly difficult or unusual cases. The difference we make and the successes we have had can be directly attributed to the detail-oriented work we provide and to our commitment to these principles:

Responsiveness and Sensitivity

Immigration law involves constant interaction with government authorities and keeping up with ever-changing laws and policies. As such, frustrating delays are not always avoidable. Our goal is to minimize such frustration and uncertainty by advising clients promptly of any changes in the law that may affect their cases, taking prompt and appropriate action, including in federal court when necessary. We are available to respond to clients' inquiries and are sensitive to cultural diversity.

Ethical Representation

Many immigration related cases call for decisions requiring not only legal analysis, but also considerations of professional responsibility and ethics. As lawyers, we strive to maintain a balanced perspective and do not use legal shortcuts that may benefit a particular case in the short term, but in the long-term would likely compromise the reputation of the firm and its clients. Should potential conflicts of interest arise, our firm has a policy of complete disclosure and timely resolution of issues.

Proven Expertise

At Van Der Hout, Brigagliano & Nightingale, all three of our firm's partners have been state-certified as Immigration and Nationality Law Specialists. We enjoy an impeccable reputation with the U.S. government and have developed a network of colleagues both here and abroad who can assist us with problems should they arise outside of the United States. We also have personal contact with many government officials. And while we have rarely had to call upon such contacts, they are an invaluable resource if a problem or issue should ever arise.

Client Satisfaction

Client satisfaction is of utmost importance to our firm. We believe our clients' major concerns and priorities are:

  • Availability of attorneys and staff to answer case-related questions;
  • Approvals on cases in a timely manner;
  • Representation meeting the highest legal and ethical standards;
  • Reasonable attorneys' fees.
